Overview

Sampoerna University American College (SUAC) is the community college component of Sampoerna University of Jakarta, Indonesia. SUAC was created in 2012 to deliver U.S. accredited curricula and associate degrees through relationships with U.S. community colleges.

Sampoerna University is a private, secular university that operates programs under the licensure and credentialing regimes of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia (abbreviated Kemenristekdikti RI), a Ministry of the Government of Indonesia responsible for regulating the fields of research, technology, and higher education.

Sampoerna University (SU) was established based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 66/E/O/2013 dated 15 March 2013 juncto Decision of the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number 122/KPT/I/2016 dated 10 March 2016, as a higher education institution dedicated to Indonesia’s social transformation through education.

Sampoerna University is an element of the Sampoerna Schools System (SSS) of Indonesia, instituted by the Putera Sampoerna Foundation for the purpose of creating and operating a system of schools bringing the complete kindergarten through university range of high-quality U.S. and international education to Indonesia. SUAC complies with the institutional policies and procedures of Sampoerna University, yet is governed independently by an independent Board of Trustees to ensure its provision of an American college educational model.

Lone Star College of Texas joined SUAC in 2012 and successfully completed the SACSCOC Sub-Change procedures in 2014. Broward College of Florida became a Technical Service Provider providing assistance in curriculum development and consulting services for SUAC under a Service Agreement on May 1, 2016.

SUAC, through its U.S. community college partners, offers a U.S. general education curriculum available for all students at Sampoerna University. SUAC courses may lead students to an Associate’s Degree and prepare students for upper-level study in a broad range of fields. SUAC students who meet admission requirements may also matriculate into upper-level U.S. and/or Indonesian university programs offered at Sampoerna University in Jakarta or transfer to suitable programs offered at universities in the U.S. and other nations.

All Sampoerna educational programs operate as Social Businesses under the aegis of Sampoerna Schools System (SSS) and subordinately under its legal parent organization the Putera Sampoerna Foundation of Indonesia. As a “social business,” PSF is committed to establishing itself as a sustainable social enterprise whose business model achieves goals of balancing its philanthropy with income from its corporate, governmental, and private sources and through student tuitions.

Word from Putera Sampoerna

Since its inception in 2001, the Putera Sampoerna Foundation has continuously provided means for young Indonesians to create a better future for themselves through education. This is the opportunity to make an impact in our national development, a means to challenge the existing systems and to challenge themselves.

In today’s Indonesia, merely having a degree is no longer enough. Companies, both local and international, are seeking people with not only the right degree, but also the right skill set. If you are willing to break trail from the old for a new path, and fight for an Indonesian future that equips young leaders with the tools necessary to succeed in the competitive global marketplace of the future – stay with us and work together. We have prepared an education super highway – the Sampoerna Schools System, and that highway into a world-port of education where young people can utilize their knowledge and skills to build a new era for Indonesia.

The Sampoerna Schools System and Sampoerna University are parts of our long-term commitment to educate Indonesia’s future leaders and innovators through a complete range of high-quality international education programs. I believe that there will be a day when we will be proud to say our efforts have contributed to bringing our country to great heights. We are and will be ready to keep up the pace and the passion. Today begins a whole new chapter in the lives of young Indonesians as our students become outstanding embodiments of the Sampoerna Schools System.
